No matter what else you choose to wear during the day, there is one thing you always have to finish an outfit off with. You might be wearing a dress, a tailored suit or even a casual tracksuit. But the one thing you will always need is footwear to complete the look. After all, most of us will want to have something on our feet when we head out for the day.

The question is how do you decide what to wear? Most women have certain styles of footwear they don’t like and others that they do. For instance, one woman might delight at wearing open toed sandals, whereas the next woman will never wear them because they don’t feel comfortable having their toes on show.

So the key thing you should always bear in mind is your own personal preferences. You should also consider what will feel comfortable for you. Some women have no problems wearing high heels, but for others nothing will feel as good as flat shoes. It will also be a good idea to consider what else you will be wearing. Clearly an evening dress coupled with a pair of trainers is not a good idea!

There can also be a big gap between what looks good at first glance and what feels good when you actually try the footwear on. So it is always important to try on whatever you find and walk around in them to see how they feel. It is also a good idea to wear whatever socks you would have on with them, if this applies. Obviously it won’t if you are looking for high heels, in which case tights would be a better option.

Sometimes it can be tempting to select a shoe that you really like the look of, even though it doesn’t feel right when you try it on. Footwear always has to feel good initially; don’t be tempted to squeeze your feet into footwear that is slightly smaller than you really need. If you do this you will end up disappointed when you wear them for any real distance.

Another good tip is never to shop for footwear first thing in the morning. This might sound slightly odd but there is a good reason for it. During the day your feet will swell slightly, so if you buy footwear first thing in the morning that fits perfectly, you may find they become uncomfortable as you go through the day.

As you can see it pays to think carefully before you buy any kind of shoes for any occasion. A little time spent now will save you a lot of potential problems – and sore feet – later on. It’s also easier to select the perfect pair of shoes for you when you’ve done your homework first.
