City breaks have risen in popularity over the last few years, thanks to a growing number of low-cost airlines offering very competitive rates. City breaks offer a cultural alternative to traditional beach holidays as travellers discover famous and lesser-known attractions in capitals and major cities around the world. Europe in particular is a hotspot for city breaks, with accolades such as European Capital of Culture encouraging holidaymakers to seek out the best experiences in new destinations.




There are numerous advantages of city breaks over traditional holidays, one of the most notable being that they are much more convenient. With most major cities being within easy reach of international airports, it's easier to get from A to B without excessive driving or train journeys in-between.

Barcelona's attractions span the ages, from its charming medieval quarter through to its world-famous artists and modern achievements, among them the popular football team FC Barcelona whose home ground at Camp Nou is a top tourist attraction in the city. Art lovers will be well catered for on Barcelona city breaks too, from timeless masterpieces housed in the Museo Picasso to the city's architecture itself, much of which was designed by 19th century architect Antoni Gaudi.
