Spring half term is the perfect time to shake off the cobwebs of the winter season and revitalise yourself for the fun months ahead. Make the most of your holiday by ensuring you inject a little excitement into your break and you'll soon find your spirits lifting. While half term holidays are typically pretty short, you can rest assured you'll be able to pack plenty of good times in - especially if you spend a little time planning your perfect holiday in advance. There are plenty of excellent day trips to enjoy in the UK, each more interesting than the last, so you're sure to be able to find plenty to entertain, even when time is tight.

Despite the mixed bag of weather the country is blessed with, the UK is well known for its stunning coastlines and beaches. From Portobello to Blackpool, there are plenty of seaside destinations that are perfect for daytrips, even when the sun isn't out. Enjoy some excellent portions of fish and chips to warm you up on a chilly day. For a beach break with a difference, you could head on down to Chesil Beach, where you'll find an 18 miles stretch of raised pebbles whose grandeur will quickly help you understand why it's nicknamed 'the Jurassic Coast'.

On the other hand, if you've got a head for heights, why not spend an afternoon seeing the sights of the land from a hot air balloon? From the rolling highlands of Scotland to the majestic three peaks of Yorkshire, you'll find some excellent scenic flights to choose from.

Of course, if you're looking for thrills this spring, then a visit to one of the UK's excellent theme parks has to be on the cards. From Alton Towers to Thorpe Park or Chessington World of Adventures, there are loads to choose from, and each has its own selection of white knuckle and stomach churning rides for you to choose from. You can also relive some very nostalgic moments by visiting Legoland Windsor, the perfect place to relive some of your more creative childhood years.

If you're planning to try and make the most of the spring half term with a series of day trips, a cheap car hire could be just what you need to keep the costs low but your transport options high - just make sure you pack a map or a sat nav if you're driving to places outside of your comfort zone.
