How to Get Promoted from the Npower Championship

The Football League is a set of hotly-followed leagues that are comprised of seventy two member clubs – making it the largest body of professional football clubs in EU football. Also known as the npower football league, this set of championships is enormously popular and is responsible for over 1600 matches taking place each season, which is more than testament to its size and status.





The npower football league is made up of three divisions: the npower Championship, npower League 1 and npower League 2. There are twenty four teams in each division and the opportunities for promotion or threat of relegation into the next division is an integral part of the league’s operation. One of the most exciting aspects of the league is finding out who’s getting promoted to the championship and who’s getting pushed back due to a lack of points. For those at the high end of the championship, they even face the prospect of being promoted to the Premiership – the richest league in all of football. This is certainly an enormous promotion and one of the most exciting things that can happen during any club’s lifetime.

Teams move up and down the tables based on how many points they score over the course of the season. Points are awarded based on the game’s results: three points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and none if they lose. As the season continues, league tables are updated to reveal each team’s new position with the aim being to get to the top of the tables and have the most points by the end of the season. In each division, the twenty four teams play one another twice – once at their home pitch and once at the opponent’s home ground – making a total of forty two games per division. At the end of the season, promotions and relegations are announced. From League Two, the top three clubs are promoted directly, another club from those placed 4th to 7th is promoted through a playoff system, and the bottom two clubs are relegated – dropped directly from the league. A similar pattern follows League One and the Championship, though it is the top two clubs and one through playoffs that gets promoted and the bottom four and three clubs that get relegated respectively.
