For genuine city lovers, few cities can match the bright lights, big city buzz of London. And with an international railway station complementing the UK capital’s five international airports, it certainly seems at times as though all roads lead to London.
Indeed, as with most major metropolises, the sheer size of London can be rather daunting at first, but speak to anyone who has lived in the city for any length of time, and they’ll say that London actually feels more like a massive collection of lots of smaller areas.
And that’s the beauty of this mesmerising city - you can live quite happily in one area and never have to venture anywhere near the city centre, with a plethora of living, shopping, dining and entertainment options spread across the city.
Of course, if you only have a few days in London, then you’ll probably want to start reasonably central. The West End could well be a good starting point in your search for a good location to base yourself, whether you’re on a short break or extended holiday, as it tends to be where all the action takes place.
Still within the boundaries of the city centre, the West End is home to many of London’s main areas of interest. The world famous ‘Theatreland’ is where the world’s top stage actors dream of making it, and the only other place on Earth that comes close to matching it is perhaps New York’s Broadway.
The West End is also home to Leicester Square, a sprawling entertainment hub with countless cinemas, and is home to the largest cinema screen in the entire country. A short walk away from Leicester Square is Covent Garden, a busy shopping and entertainment quarter renowned for its lively street performance acts and round-the-clock buzzing atmosphere.
Whilst it’s hard to choose the ‘ultimate base’ in a city as grand as London, with a nice, comfortable

Not far from Covent Garden is the unmissable Piccadilly Circus. Often compared to New York’s Times Square due to its busy, buzzing intersection and neon-lit advertising, an evening jaunt through Piccadilly Circus will have tourists craning their necks in wide-eyed wonder.
London is a vibrant, accessible city with a vast array of transport options catering for tourists from all four corners of the world. And regardless of where you decide to stay, you’ll never be far from the action.
