If you're heading for a break to New York, the chances are you want to squeeze in doing as much as possible. And if you're a 30 Rock fan, you can combine a trip to one of New York's biggest attractions with the chance to see the building where your favourite characters work. Or at least try to work.

When it was first created in 2006, 30 Rock didn't gain too much acclaim from general audiences, though it was a critical success. As the years crept by and season numbers grew, however, the show began to gather a large following and is now one of the most successful comedies on television. The cast and crew have recently started work on a fifth season and it is hoped that the show's unique blend of surrealism, irreverent humour and engaging characters will continue for several years longer.

Penned by the multi-talented Tina Fey, who is also responsible for popular teen comedy Mean Girls, 30 Rock has showcased the talents of the former Saturday Night Live writer. Fey has revealed that the show is loosely based on her experiences as an SNL writer and it is possibly for this reason that the show was picked up by network NBC, which had previously rejected her earlier submission that was centred around a news programme rather than an SNL style series.

And of course, the show is so titled after the address of the building that the cast members are said to work at - 30 Rockefeller Plaza. During filming, outdoor scenes are often shot on location at Rockefeller Centre, so if you're a 30 Rock fan then the area is well worth visiting as you can walk through the same spots your favourite characters have been seen on the show. Unfortunately, the actual office set for the show is not located in the Rockefeller Centre as it's actually filmed at the Silvercup Studios in Queens - which isn't too far away - but it's still more than worth visiting the exterior of the building just to hunt out the spots and have your picture taken "at that spot where Alec Baldwin stood in that part in that episode!"

Then there's the Rockefeller Centre itself - a top New York attraction, meaning you can tick two things off your to do list at once and return to hotels in New York satisfied you've had a productive day! Maybe even with a celebrity sighting or two!
