If you haven't visited Dubai yet, you're missing out on one of the world's foremost international travel destinations, a place where seemingly anything is possible thanks to heavy investment in the tourism industry. A city where traditional market souks co-exist with shimmering skyscrapers and some of the most advanced tourist attractions in the world, Dubai is a destination ideal for visitors of all interests - whether you want to relax, party or explore the history and culture of the United Arab Emirates.

Some of Dubai's most enticing attractions are housed in the most unlikely locations, such as shopping malls. These gigantic air-conditioned districts offer more than just retail opportunities, with attractions like Ski Dubai allowing you to enjoy some of the best skiing this side of the Alps. With a multitude of restaurants, cinemas and other amusements, you may find yourself feeling trapped by the activities on offer in Dubai's exquisite malls, but they also offer some of its excellent opportunities.

These include shopping in the city's old markets, where you can get the best prices for gold and other valuable souvenirs, as well as visiting historic buildings such as Al Fahidi Fort, which houses the Dubai National Museum. A rare find indeed in a city more associated with modern structures, the fort dates back to 1787, and is the best place in the city to find out about Bedouin culture and traditions.

Sometimes you won't even have to leave your hotel Dubai to enjoy remarkable experiences on your holiday, especially when you choose to stay in a location that offers more than just bed and breakfast. Some Dubai hotels are designed like authentic Arabian towns, complete with courtyards and exquisite architecture, to allow you to feel like you've truly stepped back in time. Your hotel should also be able to arrange many of your day trips for you, ensuring you don't miss out any of the big sights during your time in Dubai, and making sure you get to and from your accommodation safely.

Some of these trips can take place outside of Dubai to give you a fuller flavour of the UAE, in destinations such as Al Ain - known as the 'Garden City of the Gulf' due to its extensive greenery. One of the most popular activities here is the camel race, and you may also wish to make the trek to the 3,000-foot summit of Jebel Hafeet Mountain to enjoy spectacular Arabian sunsets.
